With every pro there is a downfall, and while we most certainly agree that Thailand lives up to the hype, we know that this is an objective view and may not be seen by others.
Here are some reasons why Thailand may not live up to the hype.
1. Crowded Tourist Spots
Let’s face it – Thailand has become a victim of its own success. Some of the most popular tourist spots can get overcrowded, especially during peak season from November until February.
Places like Maya Bay, made famous by the movie “The Beach,” have seen a surge in visitors, affecting the overall tranquility and natural beauty of these locations.
In fact, they even closed Maya Bay for four years to allow the environment to heal after it affected over tourism.
Well, they are not letting this happen again, and while you can now visit this iconic beach, you cannot swim (to protect the reef sharks) and only a certain amount of visitors can visit each day.
At least, Thailand is recognizing the issue of over-tourism in some places and trying its best to deal with it. However, with tourism being one of the primary sources of income for the country (the biggest being rice trade) there is only so much the government can restrict without putting people off.
Even in the most rural areas of Thailand, you can see hotels, resorts and hostels are always in construction, and the numbers of visitors increases every year.
